ADR bulk provision AP8
Bulk batteries: corrosion-resistant steel load compartment, not loaded above the walls; small plastics containers need a 0.8 m drop at -18 °C.
A Class 8 bulk provision for batteries. The load compartment design must allow for residual currents and impacts from the batteries, and it must be steel that resists the corrosive battery contents; less resistant steel is allowed with enough wall thickness or a resistant plastics lining. A note treats steel losing no more than 0.1 mm per year to the corrosive substances as resistant. The load may not rise above the top of the compartment walls. Small plastics containers are also allowed if, fully loaded, they survive a 0.8 m drop on a hard surface at -18 °C without breaking.
| Value | Applies when |
|---|---|
| 0.1 mm per year | maximum progressive reduction for steel to count as resistant |
| 0.8 m | drop height for small plastics containers, fully loaded |
| -18 °C | temperature of the small plastics container drop test |
Conditions
- Compartment design accounts for residual currents and impacts from the batteries.
- Compartment of steel resistant to the corrosive battery contents, or less resistant steel with adequate wall thickness or a resistant plastics lining or layer.
- No loading above the top of the compartment walls.
- Small plastics containers allowed if they pass the drop described.
