ADR packing instruction IBC08

Heading in ADR: “PACKING INSTRUCTION”

IBC08 is the widest solids IBC instruction: metal, rigid plastics, composite, fibreboard 11G, wooden and flexible 13-series IBCs.

IBC08 permits metal, rigid plastics and composite IBCs as in IBC06, plus fibreboard IBCs 11G, wooden IBCs 11C, 11D and 11F, and eleven flexible 13-series types (full code lists in permitted_packagings). The general rules in sections 4.1.1 to 4.1.3 apply, and 4.1.3.4 applies to solids that may liquefy. The attached B provisions set siftproof and water-resistant rules for flexible, fibreboard and wooden IBCs, exempt named UN numbers from the Chapter 6.5 testing, and note a sea ban for certain UN numbers. BB3 sets out how IBCs carrying UN 3509 (discarded empty uncleaned packagings) must be built, inspected and chosen.
