ADR packing instruction IBC620
Heading in ADR: “PACKING INSTRUCTION”
IBC620 lets UN 3291 clinical waste go in rigid, leakproof IBCs at packing group II performance level, with absorbent and puncture resistance.
IBC620 applies only to UN 3291. It permits rigid, leakproof IBCs meeting the packing group II performance level; the general rules of 4.1.1 to 4.1.3 apply, with 4.1.1.15 excluded. The IBC must hold enough absorbent to soak up all liquid inside it and must be able to retain liquids. IBCs meant for sharps such as broken glass or needles must resist puncture.
| Type | Code | Packing groups | Max capacity (L) | Max net mass (kg) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| rigid leakproof IBC | — | II | — | — |
Conditions
- Absorbent material sufficient for the entire liquid content.
- The IBC must be able to retain liquids.

Note. packing_groups here records the performance level the IBC must meet, not the packing group of the waste.
