ADR packing instruction LP101

Heading in ADR: “PACKING INSTRUCTION”

Explosive articles in 50-series large packagings with no inner or intermediate packaging; L1 lets large robust military articles go unpackaged.

LP101 permits large outer packagings 50A, 50B, 50N, 50H, 50C, 50D, 50F and 50G with inner and intermediate packagings not required, under 4.1.1, 4.1.3 and the explosives rules of 4.1.5. Special packing provision L1 covers a listed set of UN numbers: large, robust explosive articles, normally military, may be carried unpackaged if they have no means of initiation or the means have at least two effective protective features. Self-propelled articles or those with propelling charges must have their ignition systems protected against normal carriage stimuli. A negative test series 4 result on an unpackaged article supports unpackaged carriage, and such articles may sit on cradles or in crates or similar handling devices.
