ADR packing instruction LP621

Heading in ADR: “PACKING INSTRUCTION”

UN 3291 clinical waste in rigid, leakproof Chapter 6.6 large packagings at packing group II level; sharps need puncture resistance.

LP621 applies to UN 3291, under 4.1.1 and 4.1.3. Clinical waste already in inner packagings may go in rigid, leakproof large packagings meeting the Chapter 6.6 solids standard at packing group II level, if there is enough absorbent for all the liquid and the packaging can retain liquids. Packages holding larger quantities of liquid need rigid large packagings meeting the Chapter 6.6 liquids standard, again at packing group II level. Large packagings for sharps such as broken glass and needles must resist puncture and hold liquids under the Chapter 6.6 performance tests.
