ADR packing instruction LP622
Heading in ADR: “PACKING INSTRUCTION”
UN 3549 waste for disposal: metal or plastics inner and intermediate packagings in large outers meeting the packing group I solids level.
LP622 applies to UN 3549 waste carried for disposal, under 4.1.1 and 4.1.3. Inner and intermediate packagings may be metal or plastics; outers may be 50A, 50B, 50N, 50D, 50G or 50H and must meet the packing group I performance level for solids. Fragile articles need a rigid inner or intermediate packaging, and inners holding sharps must be rigid and puncture-resistant. All three layers must retain liquids, with a liner or similar measure where the outer cannot by design. Flexible inner or intermediate packagings must pass a dart impact test of at least 165 g (ISO 7765-1:1988) and a tear test of at least 480 g in both directions (ISO 6383-2:1983), and a flexible inner may hold at most 30 kg net. A flexible intermediate packaging may hold just one inner; small amounts of free liquid need enough absorbent or solidifying material; and intermediates must be cushioned within the outer.
| Value | Applies when |
|---|---|
| 165 g | minimum dart impact resistance of flexible inner or intermediate packagings, ISO 7765-1:1988 |
| 480 g | minimum tear resistance of flexible packagings in both planes, ISO 6383-2:1983 |
| 30 kg | maximum net mass of each flexible inner packaging |
| Type | Code | Packing groups | Max capacity (L) | Max net mass (kg) |

| large packaging — inner: metal or plastics inners, in metal or plastics intermediate packagings | 50A, 50B, 50N, 50D, 50G, 50H | I | — | 30 kg per flexible inner packaging |
Note. packing_groups records the performance level (packing group I, solids) the outer packaging must meet.
