ADR packing instruction LP903
Heading in ADR: “PACKING INSTRUCTION”
Large lithium/sodium cells (over 500 g) and batteries (over 12 kg), and equipment holding them, in rigid packing group II large packagings.
LP903 covers cells over 500 g gross, batteries over 12 kg gross, and equipment containing such cells or batteries, of UN 3090, 3091, 3480, 3481, 3551 and 3552. Rigid large packagings at the packing group II performance level, types 50A, 50B, 50N, 50H, 50C, 50D, 50F and 50G, are permitted under 4.1.1 and 4.1.3, for a single battery or for several cells, batteries or items of equipment. Each item must sit in an inner packaging or be separated by trays, dividers or similar so it is protected from its own movement, from contact with the others and from the weight stacked above it. Where several items are packed together, plastic bags on their own do not meet this. Batteries must be protected against short circuit.
