ADR packing instruction LP905

Heading in ADR: “PACKING INSTRUCTION”

Prototype and small-production-run (up to 100) lithium/sodium cells and batteries: one battery or one equipment item per rigid packing group II large packaging.

LP905 applies to production runs of at most 100 cells and batteries, and to pre-production prototypes carried for testing, of UN 3090, 3091, 3480, 3481, 3551 and 3552. Rigid large packagings at the packing group II performance level, types 50A, 50B, 50N, 50H, 50C, 50D, 50F and 50G, may hold one battery or one item of equipment, under 4.1.1 and 4.1.3. A battery or item of a different size, shape or mass may use a tested design type so long as the package stays within the gross mass tested. A single battery goes in an inner packaging fully surrounded by non-combustible, electrically non-conductive thermal insulation, with protection against shock, vibration and movement. A single item of equipment must be built or packed to prevent accidental operation and protected against shock, vibration and movement. Cushioning and insulation must be non-combustible to a recognised standard, and short-circuit protection is required.
