ADR packing instruction P004

Heading in ADR: “P004 PACKING INSTRUCTION”

Fuel cell cartridges (UN 3473, 3476-3479) alone, packed with equipment or contained in equipment: packaging options for each case.

Covers UN 3473, 3476, 3477, 3478 and 3479. Cartridges carried on their own go in drums, boxes or jerricans meeting the packing group II performance level. Cartridges packed with equipment go in strong outer packagings, each cartridge in an inner packaging or cushioned or divided off so it cannot be damaged by the contents moving, and the equipment secured; here "equipment" means the apparatus the cartridges power. Cartridges contained in equipment need strong outer packagings and the whole system must be protected against short circuit and inadvertent operation; large robust equipment (4.1.3.8) may travel unpackaged. Packagings under options (2) and (3) may exceed 400 kg net.
