ADR packing instruction P005
Heading in ADR: “P005 PACKING INSTRUCTION”
Engines and machinery with dangerous goods (UN 3528-3530): no outer packaging if containment is adequate, otherwise strong outer packaging or secure fixing.
Covers UN 3528, 3529 and 3530. If the engine or machinery itself gives the dangerous goods adequate protection, no outer packaging is needed; otherwise it goes in a suitable strong outer packaging meeting 4.1.1.1, or is fixed (for example in cradles or crates) so it cannot come loose in normal carriage. The containment inside the machine must be installed, secured or cushioned so it is not damaged and does not move, and if a liquid containment is damaged nothing may leak out of the machine (a leakproof liner may achieve this). Cushioning must not react dangerously with the contents and must keep its protective function if wetted by a leak. Other dangerous goods needed for the machine to work, such as batteries, fire extinguishers, gas accumulators or safety devices, must be securely mounted. Packagings may exceed 400 kg net.
Refers to: 4.1.1.1; 4.1.3.3.
