ADR packing instruction P620

Heading in ADR: “P620 PACKING INSTRUCTION”

Category A infectious substances (UN 2814, 2900): Chapter 6.3 triple packaging, 95 kPa and -40 to +55 °C capable, outer at least 100 mm.

Covers UN 2814 and 2900, with 4.1.8 applied. Packagings must meet Chapter 6.3 and be approved: leakproof primary receptacle(s), a leakproof secondary packaging, absorbent material enough for the whole contents (except for solids), and a rigid outer drum, box or jerrican whose smallest outside dimension is at least 100 mm. The primary or secondary must withstand a 95 kPa pressure differential without leakage and temperatures from -40 °C to +55 °C. Specific rules cover ambient, refrigerated or frozen, liquid nitrogen and lyophilised consignments (sealing, refrigerant placement, venting for dry ice, 5.5.3). Infectious inners may not be consolidated with unrelated goods, and other dangerous goods may be included only where needed for the specimen, with up to 30 ml of Class 3, 8 or 9 goods per primary receptacle free of further ADR requirements. The competent authority of the country of origin may authorise alternative packagings for animal material under 4.1.8.7.
