ADR packing instruction R001
Heading in ADR: “PACKING INSTRUCTION”
R001 permits light gauge metal packagings 0A1 and 0A2 up to 40 l / 50 kg for packing groups II and III; packing group I is not allowed.
R001 permits light gauge metal packagings, steel with non-removable head (0A1) or removable head (0A2), under 4.1.1 and 4.1.3. For packing groups II and III the maximum is 40 l capacity or 50 kg net mass; packing group I may not use them. It covers both liquids and solids, as long as the design type has been tested and marked accordingly. For Class 3 packing group II they are limited to substances without a subsidiary hazard whose vapour pressure at 50 °C is 110 kPa or less, and for slightly toxic pesticides. The removable-head 0A2 is not allowed for UN 1261 NITROMETHANE.
| Value | Applies when |
|---|---|
| 110 kPa at 50 °C | maximum vapour pressure for Class 3 packing group II substances in these packagings |
| Type | Code | Packing groups | Max capacity (L) | Max net mass (kg) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| light gauge metal packaging, steel, non-removable head | 0A1 | II, III | 40 | 50 |
| light gauge metal packaging, steel, removable head | 0A2 | II, III | 40 | 50 |
Conditions
- Packing group I: not allowed.
- Class 3, packing group II: only substances without a subsidiary hazard and with vapour pressure not above 110 kPa at 50 °C, plus slightly toxic pesticides.
- 0A2 is not permitted for UN 1261 NITROMETHANE.
Note. The footnote mark 'a' (not allowed for UN 1261) sits on the 0A2 line in the extracted table.
