ADR special packing provision PP94
Very small energetic samples (2.1.4.3) under UN 3223/3224: microtiter plates in boxes, 0.01 g/ml per cavity, 20 g/ml per package.
Very small quantities of energetic samples as described in 2.1.4.3 may be carried under UN 3223 or UN 3224 if the listed conditions are all met. The outer packaging must be a box of one of the listed types in a combination packaging, and the samples sit in plastics, glass, porcelain or stoneware microtiter or multi-titer plates. Each cavity holds at most 0.01 g (solid) or 0.01 ml (liquid), and each outer packaging at most 20 g or 20 ml, or a combined total of 20 for mixed packing. Where dry ice or liquid nitrogen serves as coolant, 5.5.3 applies, interior supports must hold the inners in place, and both inner and outer packagings must withstand the refrigerant temperature and the conditions if cooling is lost.
| Value | Applies when |
|---|---|
| 0.01 g | maximum per inner cavity, solids |
| 0.01 ml | maximum per inner cavity, liquids |
| 20 g | maximum net per outer packaging, solids |
| 20 ml | maximum net per outer packaging, liquids |
Conditions
- (a) Combination packagings only, with box outer packagings 4A, 4B, 4N, 4C1, 4C2, 4D, 4F, 4G, 4H1 or 4H2.
- (b) Samples held in microtiter or multi-titer plates of plastics, glass, porcelain or stoneware as the inner packaging.
- (c) No more than 0.01 g (solid) or 0.01 ml (liquid) in any single cavity.
- (d) No more than 20 g or 20 ml per outer packaging; with mixed packing, grams plus millilitres must total 20 or less.
- (e) Optional dry ice or liquid nitrogen coolant: comply with 5.5.3, provide interior supports, and keep the packagings intact at refrigerant temperature and if refrigeration fails.
