ADR special packing provision RR9
RID/ADR only: rules for packagings carrying UN 3509 discarded empty uncleaned packagings.
For UN 3509 (packagings, discarded, empty, uncleaned) under P003, the packagings need not meet 4.1.1.3. They must meet 6.1.4 and be made leak tight or have a leak-tight, puncture-resistant sealed liner or bag. Flexible packagings are allowed where residues are only solids that will not liquefy at likely carriage temperatures; liquid residues require rigid packagings with a retention means such as absorbent. Each packaging must be inspected before filling and handover and withdrawn if its strength is reduced (minor dents and scratches do not count). Packagings for Class 5.1 residues must keep the goods from touching wood or other combustible material.
Conditions
- Packagings are exempt from 4.1.1.3.
- They must comply with 6.1.4 and be leak tight or have a leak-tight, puncture-resistant sealed liner or bag.
- Flexible packagings only where residues are solids that will not liquefy at likely carriage temperatures.
- Liquid residues require rigid packagings with a retention means, e.g. absorbent material.
- Inspect for corrosion, contamination or damage before filling and handover; withdraw any with reduced strength.
- For Class 5.1 residues the goods must be kept from contact with wood or other combustible material.
