ADR portable tank instruction T8

Heading in ADR: “PORTABLE TANK INSTRUCTIONS”

Portable tank, Class 1 and 3–9: test 4 bar; shell See 6.7.2.4.2; relief Normal; bottom openings Not allowed.

T8 belongs to the T1–T22 set of portable tank instructions, which serve Class 1 and Class 3–9 goods, liquid or solid; the tank has to satisfy the general rules of 4.2.1 and the design rules of 6.7.2. Its four entries are: minimum test pressure 4 bar; minimum shell thickness "See 6.7.2.4.2" (millimetres of reference steel for metal shells, governed by 6.7.2.4); pressure relief "Normal" (governed by 6.7.2.8); bottom openings "Not allowed" (governed by 6.7.2.6). The word "Normal" in the relief column means every part of 6.7.2.8 applies with the single exception of 6.7.2.8.3. Bottom openings are barred when a liquid is carried (6.7.2.6.1); a substance that stays solid at every temperature met in normal carriage may still use bottom openings built to 6.7.2.6.2. FRP shells under these instructions are limited to Class 1, 3, 8, 9, 5.1, 6.1 or 6.2 substances, and Chapter 6.9 then applies too. Column (10) gives the least demanding instruction allowed; tanks under stricter instructions may be used as set out in 4.2.5.2.5.
