ADR tank code CxBH(M)

ADR tank code for Class 2 gases: compressed gas tank, X (test pressure from 4.3.3.2.5), openings B, hermetically closed, suffix (M).

CxBH(M) is decoded part by part from the 4.3.3.1.1 table for Class 2 gases. Part 1 "C" is a tank, battery-vehicle or MEGC for compressed gases; part 2 "X" is the minimum relevant test pressure taken from the table in 4.3.3.2.5 for the gas. Part 3 "B" (openings): tank filled or discharged from the bottom through openings having 3 closures; or a battery-vehicle/MEGC with openings below the liquid surface or for compressed gases. Part 4 "H" (safety valves/devices): the tank is hermetically closed (see 1.2.1). The "(M)" after the code means the gas may also go in battery-vehicles or MEGCs. The code gives the least stringent tank accepted; others may be used under the hierarchy in 4.3.3.1.2.

The code, part by part
tank type: Ctank, battery-vehicle or MEGC for compressed gases
calculation pressure: Xthe minimum relevant test pressure taken from the table in 4.3.3.2.5 for the gas
openings: Btank filled or discharged from the bottom through openings having 3 closures; or a battery-vehicle/MEGC with openings below the liquid surface or for compressed gases
safety valves: Hhermetically closed (see 1.2.1)
suffix: (M)the substance may also be carried in battery-vehicles or MEGCs (3.2.1, column (12))

Note. Tank codes permitted in place of this one: see the hierarchy in 4.3.3.1.2 (Volume II page 208); not computed here. "x" in the code stands for the value X, read per gas from the 4.3.3.2.5 table. The (M) suffix is explained in 3.2.1 under column (12) (Volume I page 297), not in the 4.3.3.1.1 table.
