ADR special provision 237
Membrane filter materials must not propagate detonation in test series 1 (a); authority may exempt nitrocellulose filters from Class 4.1 on burning tests.
As carried, the filters and anything with them (paper separators, coatings, backing and similar) must not be prone to propagate detonation in a test series 1 (a) test (Manual of Tests and Criteria, Part I). Separately, the competent authority may rule, from appropriate burning rate tests that take the Part III sub-section 33.2 tests into account, that nitrocellulose membrane filters in their carried form escape the Class 4.1 flammable solid rules.
