ADR special provision 293
Defines the four kinds of matches: fusee, safety, strike anywhere and wax vesta.
This provision gives the definitions used to place matches in the right entry. It distinguishes four types by how they ignite and how they burn.
Conditions
- (a) Fusee matches: heads made with a friction-sensitive igniter plus a pyrotechnic composition that gives intense heat with little or no flame.
- (b) Safety matches: joined to or attached to their box, book or card and lit by friction only on a prepared surface.
- (c) Strike anywhere matches: lit by friction on any solid surface.
- (d) Wax Vesta matches: lit by friction on either a prepared surface or a solid surface.
Note. Definitions (a) and (b) are on page 619; (c) and (d) continue on page 620.
