ADR special provision 309

For non-sensitized ammonium nitrate emulsions, suspensions and gels (ANE) meant to become Type E blasting explosives; test series 8 and approval needed.

The entry covers emulsions, suspensions and gels that are not sensitized and consist mainly of ammonium nitrate and fuel, intended to become a Type E blasting explosive only after further processing before use. Typical compositions are given for emulsions and for suspensions and gels, and other inorganic nitrate salts may stand in for part of the ammonium nitrate. The substance must satisfy the test series 8 criteria for ANE (Manual of Tests and Criteria, Part I, Section 18). It must also be approved by the competent authority.
