ADR special provision 328
Fuel cell cartridges, alone or with equipment: leak-proof design, 100 kPa pressure test for liquid fuels, 1.2 m drop test; batteries consigned too.
The entry covers fuel cell cartridges, also when contained in or packed with equipment, and a cartridge fitted inside or built into a fuel cell system is treated as contained in equipment. A fuel cell cartridge is an article storing fuel that is released into the fuel cell through one or more control valves. Cartridges must be designed and built to prevent fuel leakage in normal carriage. Design types with liquid fuel must pass an internal pressure test at 100 kPa (gauge) without leaking. Except metal hydride hydrogen cartridges (special provision 339), each design type must survive a 1.2 metre drop onto an unyielding surface in the worst orientation with no loss of contents. When the fuel cell system contains lithium metal, lithium ion or sodium ion batteries, the consignment goes under this entry and also the matching UN 3091, UN 3481 or UN 3552 contained-in-equipment entry.
