ADR special provision 371
Articles with a small pressure receptacle and release device: ≤ 0.5 L, ≤ 25 bar at 15 °C, 4 × burst margin, fire and initiation tests, maker records.
The entry also covers articles that contain a small pressure receptacle fitted with a release device. Such articles must meet the construction and test conditions (a) to (g). The manufacturer must keep technical documentation of the design type, manufacture and tests and results, apply procedures so series production is of good quality and matches the tested design, and give this information to the competent authority on request.
| Value | Applies when |
|---|---|
| 0.5 litres | maximum water capacity of the pressure receptacle |
| 25 bar at 15 °C | maximum working pressure |
| 4 times gas pressure at 15 °C | minimum burst pressure |
| 10 metres | maximum distance the article or fragments may rocket in the fire test |
Conditions
- (a) Pressure receptacle water capacity at most 0.5 litres and working pressure at most 25 bar at 15 °C.
- (b) Burst pressure at least four times the gas pressure at 15 °C.
- (c) Made so that firing or release does not happen by accident in normal handling, packing, carriage and use, for example with an extra locking device linked to the activator.
- (d) Made to prevent hazardous projection of the receptacle or its parts.
- (e) Receptacle made of a material that does not fragment on rupture.
- (f) Design type fire-tested to the listed paragraphs of section 16.6.1 of the Manual of Tests and Criteria (see references), showing pressure is released through a fire degradable seal or other relief device without the receptacle fragmenting and without rocketing more than 10 metres.
- (g) Design type tested by initiating one article in the middle of the packaging with a stimulating mechanism, with no hazardous effect outside the package such as rupture of the package, metal fragments or a receptacle passing through it.
