ADR special provision 400
Short-circuited sodium ion cells and batteries, alone or with equipment, are exempt from ADR when (a) to (f) are met.
Sodium ion cells and batteries, including those contained in or packed with equipment, are outside the rest of ADR when they hold no electrical energy because they are short-circuited and the other conditions are met.
| Value | Applies when |
|---|---|
| 1.2 m | drop test in any orientation, packages without installed cells |
Conditions
- (a) Each cell or battery is short-circuited so it holds no electrical energy, and the short circuit is easy to check (e.g. a busbar across the terminals).
- (b) Each cell or battery complies with paragraphs (a), (b), (d), (e) and (f) of 2.2.9.1.7.2.
- (c) Each package carries the mark of 5.2.1.9.
- (d) Unless installed in equipment, each package survives a 1.2 m drop in any orientation without damage to the cells, contents shifting into battery-to-battery or cell-to-cell contact, or loss of contents.
- (e) Installed cells and batteries are protected from damage; the equipment goes in strong, suitable outer packagings unless it gives the battery equivalent protection.
- (f) Each cell contains only dangerous goods allowed under Chapter 3.4, in quantities no greater than column (7a) of Table A.
