ADR special provision 594
Fire extinguishers (UN 1044) and pressurized pneumatic/hydraulic articles (UN 3164) built to national rules are exempt when packed as stated.
Articles made and filled under the rules of their country of manufacture are outside ADR in two cases. Fire extinguishers (UN 1044) protected against accidental discharge qualify if packed in a strong outer packaging, or if they are large extinguishers meeting PP91 of P003. Pressurized pneumatic or hydraulic articles (UN 3164), built to withstand stresses above their internal gas pressure, qualify when packed in a strong outer packaging. The country-of-manufacture rules may also be read as those of the country of use.
Conditions
- (a) UN 1044 fire extinguishers with protection against inadvertent discharge, either in a strong outer packaging or, if large, meeting special packing provision PP91 of P003.
- (b) UN 3164 pneumatic or hydraulic pressure articles designed to resist stresses beyond the internal gas pressure, in a strong outer packaging.
