The column (3b) classification code may be used only with prior written competent-authority approval (classification approval certificate).

Before carriage, use of the classification code shown in column (3b) needs approval from the competent authority of an ADR Contracting Party. The approval is a written classification approval certificate with a unique reference (see 5.4.1.2.1 (g)). Where the division was assigned by the default procedure of 2.2.1.1.7.2, the authority may ask for verification with test series 6 data (Manual of Tests and Criteria, Part I, Section 16).
