ADR tank special provision TE19

Top fittings recessed, valved or shielded against overturning; bottom fittings recessed 200 mm or rail-protected; rear fittings behind the 9.7.6 bumper.

Fittings on top of the tank must sit in a recessed housing, have an internal safety valve, or be guarded by a cap, cross or lengthwise members or an equally effective device shaped so they survive an overturn. Underneath, pipe-sockets, side shut-off devices and all discharge devices must be set back at least 200 mm from the outermost edge of the tank, or be guarded by a rail with a coefficient of inertia of at least 20 cm³ across the direction of travel. With the tank full, their ground clearance must be at least 300 mm. Fittings on the rear face must be protected by the bumper required in 9.7.6 and mounted at a height where it actually shields them.

Note. TE19 is printed in a single (left-hand) column. Under 6.8.1.1, text set in one column binds only the left-hand group (battery-vehicles, demountable tanks, tank-vehicles) or only the right-hand group (MEGCs, tank swap bodies, tank-containers). The rail figure is printed as 20 cm³ in the source, although a moment of inertia would normally be given in cm⁴; the printed unit is kept.
