ADR special provision 252
Hot concentrated ammonium nitrate solutions: entry use needs ≤ 93 % AN, ≥ 7 % water, max 140 °C etc.; ≤ 80 % solutions meeting (2) are outside ADR.
Paragraph (1) sets the composition and temperature conditions for carrying hot concentrated ammonium nitrate solutions under this entry. Paragraph (2) exempts such solutions from ADR entirely when they meet a stricter set of conditions.
| Value | Applies when |
|---|---|
| 93 % | maximum ammonium nitrate, (1) |
| 7 % | minimum water, (1) |
| 0.2 % | maximum combustible material, (1) and (2) |
| 0.02 % | maximum chloride ion level, (1) |
| 5 to 7 pH | 10 % aqueous solution measured at 25 °C, (1) |
| 140 °C | maximum allowable carriage temperature, (1) |
| 80 % | maximum ammonium nitrate for exemption, (2) |
Conditions
- (1)(a) No more than 93 % ammonium nitrate.
- (1)(b) At least 7 % water.
- (1)(c) No more than 0.2 % combustible material.
- (1)(d) Chlorine compounds below the level giving a chloride ion content over 0.02 %.
- (1)(e) A 10 % aqueous solution has pH between 5 and 7 at 25 °C.
- (1)(f) Carriage temperature no higher than 140 °C.
- (2) Not subject to ADR when: no more than 80 % ammonium nitrate; no more than 0.2 % combustible material; the ammonium nitrate stays dissolved under all carriage conditions; and no other class criteria are met.
