FCA — Responsibilities & Risk
Seller's Responsibility
Deliver goods to carrier at named place. Export clearance. Loading onto collecting vehicle if delivery is at seller's premises.
Buyer's Responsibility
Main carriage, insurance, import clearance, duties, unloading at destination.
Risk Transfer Point
When goods are delivered to the carrier at the named place.
Cost Transfer Point
At the named place of delivery to carrier.
Insurance Obligation
No obligation on either party.
Export Clearance
Seller.
Import Clearance
Buyer.
Best For
International trade where seller wants to handle export but not main carriage. Most versatile INCOTERM for multimodal transport.
Watch Out
New in 2020: FCA can now include a provision for the buyer to instruct their carrier to issue a bill of lading to the seller (useful for letter of credit transactions).
