ADR bulk container code BK2
Bulk carriage in closed bulk containers is allowed for the substance, subject to Chapter 6.11 and 7.3.2.
BK2 in column (10) authorises carriage in bulk in closed bulk containers. The bulk container must comply with Chapter 6.11, and the general bulk rules of 7.3.1 apply as well. Class-specific limits follow in 7.3.2: Class 4.2 loads must keep the spontaneous ignition temperature above 55 °C, Class 4.3 needs waterproof containers, Class 5.1 must not touch wood or other incompatible material, Class 8 needs watertight containers, and Class 6.2 animal material and UN 3291 wastes have their own lists of conditions. Closed containers are the only kind permitted for UN 3509 and must be leak tight or lined, with a means to hold any free liquid. UN 3291 clinical waste goes only in closed bulk containers, inside approved bags or rigid packagings, with inspection after each journey.
| Value | Applies when |
|---|---|
| 55 °C | minimum spontaneous ignition temperature of the total mass for Class 4.2 goods |
| 30 kg | maximum net mass of each plastics bag of UN 3291 waste |
Note. Margin section numbers of 7.3.2 are offset from the text in the extraction. Where column (17) shows VC2, a BK2 bulk container may also be used for land transport if 7.3.3.2 is met.
