ADR tank code L4BN

ADR tank code for Classes 1 and 3–9: liquid tank, 4 bar, openings B, valves/devices N.

L4BN is decoded part by part from the 4.3.4.1.1 table for Classes 1 and 3–9. Part 1 "L" is a tank for liquid-state substances (liquids, or solids handed over molten); part 2 "4" is minimum calculation pressure of 4 bar (see 6.8.2.1.14). Part 3 "B" (openings): filling or discharge openings at the bottom, each with 3 closures. Part 4 "N" (safety valves/devices): the tank has no 6.8.2.2.6 breather device and is not hermetically closed. The code gives the least stringent tank accepted; others may be used under the hierarchy in 4.3.4.1.2.

The code, part by part
tank type: Ltank for liquid-state substances (liquids, or solids handed over molten)
calculation pressure: 4minimum calculation pressure of 4 bar (see 6.8.2.1.14)
openings: Bfilling or discharge openings at the bottom, each with 3 closures
safety valves: Nhas no 6.8.2.2.6 breather device and is not hermetically closed

Note. Tank codes permitted in place of this one: see the rationalized approach and hierarchy in 4.3.4.1.2 (Volume II pages 217–222); not computed here. As corrected by ECE/TRANS/352/Corr.2 (item 6), the 4.3.4.1.2 rationalized-approach row for L4BN, Class 3, classification code F1 reads packing group I; the page 218 extraction shows that cell blank, as printed before the corrigendum.
