Portable tank special provisions
Extra conditions for carriage in portable tanks. These codes appear in Table A column 11; ADR sets them out in section 4.2.5.3 of ADR 2025 (ECE/TRANS/352). 32 codes are in use, 0 reviewed. Each meaning below is a paraphrase in FreightUtils' own words, not the official text.
- TP33 · 700 rowsThe assigned tank instruction covers granular/powdered solids and solids loaded hot but carried as a solid mass.
- TP2 · 616 rowsPortable tank must not be filled beyond the degree of filling set by 4.2.1.9.3 (the 95-based formula).
- TP1 · 562 rowsPortable tank must not be filled beyond the degree of filling set by 4.2.1.9.2 (the 97-based formula).
- TP27 · 172 rowsA 4 bar minimum test pressure tank may be used if 4 bar or less is shown acceptable under 6.7.2.1.
- TP28 · 91 rowsA 2.65 bar minimum test pressure tank may be used if 2.65 bar or less is shown acceptable under 6.7.2.1.
- TP7 · 84 rowsAir must be removed from the vapour space, by nitrogen or another method.
- TP8 · 56 rowsTest pressure may drop to 1.5 bar when the substances carried have a flash point above 0 °C.
- TP29 · 24 rowsA 1.5 bar minimum test pressure tank may be used if 1.5 bar or less is shown acceptable under 6.7.2.1.
- TP36 · 21 rowsFusible elements may be fitted in the vapour space of the portable tank.
- TP3 · 20 rowsFor solids above melting point and hot liquids, maximum filling (%) is set by 4.2.1.9.5: 95 × dr/df.
- TP5 · 19 rowsThe filling restrictions of 4.2.3.6 must be respected.
- TP41 · 17 rowsWith competent authority agreement, the 2.5-year internal examination may be waived for tanks dedicated to these organometallics.
- TP4 · 14 rowsDegree of filling capped at 90 %, or another figure the competent authority approves.
- TP6 · 10 rowsTank needs pressure-relief devices sized to its capacity and the substance so it cannot burst, even in a fire.
- TP24 · 9 rowsTank may have an approved vapour-space device that vents slow-decomposition pressure but stops liquid leaking.
- TP40 · 6 rowsPortable tank must not be carried while connected to spray application equipment.
- TP17 · 5 rowsThermal insulation of the tank may only use inorganic, non-combustible materials.
- TP22 · 4 rowsLubricant for joints and other devices must be compatible with oxygen.
- TP26 · 4 rowsWhen carried heated, the heating device goes outside the shell (for UN 3176 only if it reacts dangerously with water).
- TP32 · 4 rowsConditions for UN 0331, 0332 and 3375 in portable tanks: relief device, suitability test for 3375, no caking.
- TP31 · 3 rowsMay be carried in tanks only in the solid state.
- TP9 · 2 rowsCarriage in a portable tank only under a competent authority approval.
- TP19 · 2 rowsShell built 3 mm thicker than the 6.7.3.4 minimum as corrosion allowance; ultrasonic checks midway between hydraulic tests.
- TP21 · 2 rowsShell at least 8 mm thick; hydraulic test and internal inspection at least every 2.5 years.
- TP34 · 2 rowsImpact test of 6.7.4.14.1 not needed if the tank is marked "NOT FOR RAIL TRANSPORT" on its plate and both sides.
- TP42 · 2 rowsPortable tanks may not be used for caesium or rubidium dispersions.
- TP10 · 1 rowLead lining at least 5 mm thick, tested yearly, or another approved lining; 3-month grace after lining inspection lapses.
- TP16 · 1 rowTank must have an approved device against under- and over-pressure; relief per 6.7.2.8.3 to stop crystallization.
- TP18 · 1 rowKeep between 18 °C and 40 °C; tanks with solidified methacrylic acid must not be reheated in transit.
- TP20 · 1 rowOnly in insulated tanks under a nitrogen blanket.
- TP25 · 1 rowSulphur trioxide of 99.95 % purity or more may go without inhibitor if kept at or above 32.5 °C.
